Not just another blogger?

July 31, 2008

The last week has been pretty great for me.
I’ve been super-busy at work, and been the lead on a couple of very large projects with very positive feedback from clients and co-workers. It’s also our year end, and month end, so there’s always lots of work to go through and make sure we’re on course.
I’ve [...]

More fun with Lego!

July 28, 2008

James liked my earlier post about the philosophy of using Lego to find JV partners.
He found this great website called Lego a Day. I particularly like their one with Wall-E and the Stormtroopers.
After the discussion the other day on Sheldon and Sara’s blog, I’m going to post some numbers of what my investment analysis look [...]

The Very Last Lecture

July 27, 2008

I’m sad to report that Randy Prausch, the Carnegie Mellon professor who gave the world famous Last Lecture passed on this week. I’ve posted before about him and how inspiring I found his talk, and it seems like a fitting time to share it again.

Coldplay’s Violet Hill – Song of the Week

July 25, 2008

Here, finally, is a song of the week. I missed last week’s because I was off in Edmonton, but now I’m back on the wagon.

I use Google Finance to track my stocks, so I’m familiar with this type of sliding chart. This one has the full set of monthly Edmonton house prices, as reported by EREB.
Really, it’s just another fun toy, which you can also find as the [...]

Edmonton Real Estate Prices Since 1962

July 23, 2008

[Note: Last updated July 16th, 2009.]
Here’s something a little different and kind of fun if you’re a big dork like me. I took the historical price data from the EREB and did trailing averages. Then I put it in a Google Docs spreadsheet for cool investors like you to use. You can also access the [...]

Where to Advertise Rentals – Final Results

July 23, 2008

This is part two of our experiment testing several Edmonton apartment rental sites.
(If you haven’t already seen them, you might want to check the week one results and our ongoing list of some other popular sites where you can list your Edmonton, Calgary and Kelowna properties for rent.)
This is actually almost three weeks worth [...]

My VIP Birthday

July 15, 2008

This weekend my parents were on their way through town going to Merritt’s Mountain Fest. A couple weeks before the event Mom suggested I come down for the Friday night as they didn’t particularly want to see any of the acts, and it was going to be my birthday. Sounded good to me, and if [...]
